Ithaca College Dance Marathon – BomberTHON
Ithaca College was on a mission to help kids in their local community. The students were raising funds to help raise awareness through a Dance Marathon for the local Children’s Miracle Hospitals, which helped treat children from the local areas and provides them with critical life-saving and healthcare services for children as well as their families.
On April 10, 2021, the Ithaca College Dance Marathon, which is known as BomberTHON took place. Wow, what an amazing virtual turn out that was. There were about 110 participants flowing in and out of the Zoom all day. Whether remote or in person, the BomberTHON never disappoints. Everyone came together to raise money for a great cause and each dollar raised was for a miracle that was made. This year was filled with so much uncertainty, but that the turn out we received and the money that has been raised is truly remarkable. Thank you to all the sponsors and families that participated.
Let’s look back at the BomberTHON power hour and remember how special that part of the event was. $62 was raised for the 62 children that are admitted to a Children’s Miracle Hospital every minute. Let’s not forget about the Rubber Ducky Derby where individuals had the opportunity to sponsor a rubber duck to be entered into the derby which was held inside the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium on Ithaca’s campus. The top 3 winners received cash prizes. In addition, there was also a live DJ, trivia, a Zumba class, and a Build-a-Buddy portion where participants assembled stuffed animals that came with their own BomberTHON t-shirts.
This year, the BomberTHONwas able to raise $34,221.92 which smashed the goal of $25,000. It doesn’t seem like remote fundraising is too bad after all! This money will help to provide for miracles for children and families at the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Laura Heppes, the event leader, said “I think that BomberTHON has become such a special experience for so many Ithaca College Students. Despite being a smaller school, BomberTHON has shown our student body how great of an impact we can have on children and families in the local area. Witnessing students from all over campus come together to support Upstate Golisano has been awe-inspiring, and I am so grateful for the contributions from the Ithaca College community”.
A big thank you to all for your support and dedication to BomberTHON. We can’t wait to do it all again next year! Even though remote BomberTHON was a huge success, hopefully we can all come together to do it again like the old days! FTK!
